Grad Planning Continued

1) Grad Program - Group Inquiry... worksheets to put in your duotang:
  1. Your Graduation Program Requirements
  2. Grad Requirements - True/False
  3. Programming Guides Scavenger Hunt - each group has guidebooks
  4. Fill in the blanks Grad Requirements
  5. Credit Check
2) Celebrity Grad Program - Group Task

Let's pretend that a celebrity (that your group agrees on) has just confessed to the media that she/he did not actually graduate from high school! Shocking!
In a move to make amends and get a diploma, that celebrity has picked Highland Secondary to create a three year reality TV show where she/he goes back to school and takes all the required courses in order to graduate. Your groups job is to make a three year plan for their courses, and then to make a Prezzi presentation that explains what happened during those three years. Think photos combined with report card score and comments, images of what happened in classes, and how that celebrity got along in school, etc...

Me Maps Due and Safe Schools Chat

1) Me Maps are due...

2) Pink Shirt Day is next week... and because I don't feel like starting in on the Grad Transitions plan just yet (We will do on Tuesday, though... which reminds me... that programming is coming up and there is an electives showcase that you should check out on Tuesday at lunchtime. Consider this your homework.)

Leadership students are putting activities for that day - and one feature will be asking AG students to watch this video:

3) Discussion Question  - Placemats

  • What does it mean to be safe?
  • What does a safe and caring school look like?
  • How is (or isn't) Highland a safe and caring school?
  • What can you do to make school more safe, more caring?

4) This is your story... a brief writing assignment. In under 200 words tell a true(ish) story about one of the four topics.
  • Once I was a bully...
  • Once I was bullied...
  • Once I watched a bully...
  • Once I stopped a bully...

Sparks, a Bucket List, and a Me Map!

1) Share favourite quote thingy! What is it? Why do you like it?

2) Sparks!? Have you got one, two, three, 100?!

Finding your sparks....Activity Checklist - on the back create a bucket list.

Sparks list - circle all that apply! :)

3) The Me Map - okay, now we have to take all the stuff that you already know about yourself, all the stuff that you learned about your personality, and all the stuff you learned about how you learn... and sum it all up in a giant cluster map.

You will have today and Thursday to find a way to represent yourself. More details here....

EXAMPLES: A simple computer generated brainstorm web show the characteristics of Ryan.
This student used her love of soccer as a main template for the mind map and then included several different qualities or facets of her life.  It shows some thoughts about the complexity of her life.
This is a wordle (a collection of descriptive words- easy to make online) in which a student shows the vows s/he made for a new year.  It’s colourful, eye-catching and comprehensive.
This mind map uses tree branches to show different types of learning with a combination of words and pictures.  This one is done partially on a computer and includes some hand drawing.  The trick here is to know the complex organization and add words and images accordingly.
This is a great example of a very emotive, artistic, and intricate mind map.  Notice how the style and content match.
This is a very complex mind map for a literary character.  Notice the system of organization into sub categories, minor and major attributes, and a nice use of eye-catching colour.

Thursday and Friday - TO DO

So, we are still trying to figure out who we are.... in the library today we have some stuff to do to help us with this task.

1) Catch Up on Recent Work. The following should be completed and in your duotang:

  • Introductory Questions Sheet
  • Timeline of Milestones
 2) Quote Poster - find a favourite quotation that really sums up the very most important things in life, in your opinion... make it into an 8 1/2 x 11" poster. Colour it. Add images... whatever you like. Be prepared to share this with the class next week. Put it in your duotang when done...

Here is my most favourite quote:
